Farewell to Lulu Belle

Lulu went for a truck ride with HairyFace this morning.  It will be her last ride with us because her destination was The Shelter, where she would be vetted, crated, and loaded into the Rolling Rescue van for the long ride to New Jersey. She was eager to go for a ride (she always is) […]

Lulu Warms Up to Jasper

Because Lulu was mistreated by both the peoples and the dogs of her former family, she was guarded and defensive when she first got here.  She quickly overcame that with the Peoples when they did not mistreat her.  By giving her love and affection, she happily returned the same to them.  It’s all she ever […]

The Patience of Lulu

Lulu shows a lot of patience for a little girl … most of the time.  She gets excited when the peoples come home and she wants to be with them RIGHT NOW.  But most other times, she’s just a doll. Patience at Meals At meal prep times, she’s generally found in the middle of the […]

Lulu: Free-Range Sleeper

It’s bed time.  HairyFace is sitting in bed reading, NiceLady is handing out bedtime cookies to good dogs who are in their beds.  Hairy brought Lulu’s dining blanket back and put it in a snuggle bed to mark it as hers.  NiceLady manages to get her to sit on the bed to get the cookie.  […]

Lulu: Heartworm Treatment Given

Lulu is home after receiving her second Immiticide shot. We are told the treatment went well, although Lulu serenaded the staff all afternoon with her ballad of angst. She was eager to go when Hairy arrived: A large dog tied in the back of a pick-up truck out front of the shelter broke its tie […]

Lulu’s Accommodations Upgrade

Lulu is good in the house and is trusted to “free-range” even when the Peoples go outside for a short time.  The only time Lulu is crated is at night (and that’s only because she resists settling into bed at bed time and staying there).  Since the crate isn’t needed in the living area, the […]

Lulu’s Meal-Time Manners

My padawan house dogs always start out eating meals in their crate. There are two reasons for this. One is to help establish their crate as a good place to be, a comforting place, a place they want to be. The other is to keep them from infringing on our meals. Some dogs – most […]

Learning About Lulu

Lulu has been living with us for several weeks now and we have learned a few things about her personality and traits. We did not want to jump to conclusions about anything because she came out of an abusive situation, and that will taint any dog’s behavior. But we think we can get a pretty […]

Lulu’s Heartworm Treatment

It’s Monday July 11th, 2016 and the Peoples took Lulu with them and went off in the truck this morning. She’s to get her first round of heartworm medication (aside from the antibiotics that’s she’s been taking since she got here). This is an oral medication. No pain involved. Formal Heartworm Treatment: First Step Lulu […]
